Huawei HMS may show ads in the EMUI

Huawei recently completed its task to provide the latest EMUI version to all the Huawei/Honor smartphone users in all over the world, regarding the Huawei Mobile Services Core (HMS Core), the company has updated its “Terms and Conditions” page, which indicates the personalized system-wide advertising.

Huawei says the advertising platform may be added to all devices, including those that do not have access to Google Play services.

Huawei advertising important points & clarifications:

  • The personal data used for ads personalization is retained for one year from the time of collection.
  • The data is stored in the data centers located in Hong Kong (China) and Singapore.
  • If the user gives their consent, Huawei Ads will also collect and process the user’s location information (via GPS) to provide “geographically relevant” advertisements
  • In addition, your data may also be processed by our local customer service centers, for example, in Egypt, Mexico, India, South Korea, and Pakistan.

Up until now, EMUI did not include ads, but Huawei may be ready to change that. Do note that this information has not been confirmed. If this becomes true, Huawei will be the latest Chinese smartphone manufacture to add advertising into the operating system.

HMS Core is a collection of Huawei terminal cloud service and mobile service open capabilities. It is a platform that provides basic services for application development. HMS Apps includes core applications consisting of Huawei Cloud Space, Huawei Smart Assistant, Huawei App Market, Huawei Wallet, Huawei Skyrim, Huawei Video, Huawei Music, Huawei Reading, Huawei Themes and Living Services. At present, Huawei has more than 1.3 million registered developers worldwide, and the number of applications accessing HMS Core globally exceeds 55,000.
