According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, it is extending the terms of the existing Temporary General License (TGL) authorizations for Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. and its non-U.S. affiliates (Huawei) on the Entity List for 90 days.
Since May 2019, the U.S. Department of Commerce has included Huawei in the list of entities on the grounds of national security. Previously, the US Department of Commerce extended it to May 15, 2020. Huawei, the second-largest maker of smartphones, is also major telecom equipment that provides 5G network technology.
Yesterday, President Donald Trump extended the May 2019 executive order barring the US complaining from using Huawei telecommunication equipment, this is from companies deemed a national security risk until May 2021.
The 90-day extension provides an opportunity for users of Huawei devices and telecommunication providers—particularly those in rural U.S. communities—to continue to temporarily operate such devices and existing networks while hastening the transition to alternative suppliers – US Department of Commerce.
However, the United States is now extending the special permit for another 90 days. All companies with a permit can now trade with Huawei for a further 3 months.
