Huawei hosted the first African Operator Cloud Transformation Summit

At the GITEX AFRICA 2023, the Chinese tech giant Huawei finally hosted the first African Operator Cloud Transformation Summit with the theme of “+ Cloud, Grow Together”.  At the event, the guests from the government, operators, and consulting agencies came together to discuss hot topics such as IT development trends in the telecom industry, operator cloud transformation strategies, and ToB cloud successful business practices.

The company has officially released a distributed cloud solution for African operators to help local operators efficiently implement cloudification of internal IT systems, better support operators in building On-Premise ToB clouds, and accelerate operators’ deployment through cloud-network integration. Realize the network and open up the industry market space.

In his opening speech, Hou Wei, Director of Huawei’s North African Carrier BG, pointed out that cloud technology has been integrated into the digital transformation of various industries and has become a key force in restructuring the economic structure of industries. Africa is also currently facing huge opportunities for digital transformation. The operator’s cloud transformation is suggested to adopt the “CT + cloud” approach, give full play to the advantages of the telecom industry, and use the cloud transformation to release the full value of telecom networks and services.

Kris Szaniawski, a senior analyst at Omdia, said that in the next five years, the compound growth rate (CAGR) of the enterprise cloud service market in the Middle East and Africa is expected to reach 21%, which is higher than the global average of 17%. The development of cloud services in Africa is still in its infancy. With the deepening of digital transformation strategies in African countries, enterprises’ demand for cloud services is rapidly increasing, and operators have huge growth potential in the enterprise cloud service market.

Ethio Telecom CTO Tariku Demissie also said that cloud services have become a key engine for Ethio Telecom to achieve the second growth curve, and cloud-based industry scenario solutions have helped Ethio Telecom quickly open up space for large and medium-sized enterprises to participate in the digital market. Ethio Telecom released the ToB cloud solution for the whole industry in November 2022. Five days after the cloud was launched, all the cloud resources of the first phase were sold, reflecting the huge market demand for industry digitization.
