The US Government/Commerce stated that it is extending Huawei’s temporary license to allow US companies to conduct business with Huawei until May 15. Since May 2019, the U.S. Department of Commerce has included Huawei in the list of entities on the grounds of national security.

However, the department has subsequently extended the temporary licensing restrictions several times. Previously, the US Department of Commerce extended it to April 1, 2020. Huawei, the second-largest maker of smartphones, is also major telecom equipment that provides 5G network technology.

The department has said the licenses allow rural carriers to continue to service customers in some of the most remote areas of the United States.

U.S. President Donald Trump also signed an executive order in May barring U.S. companies from using telecommunications equipment made by companies deemed to pose a national security risk.
