Android 11 Developer Preview 2 Changelog And New Features

Google had officially released the Android 11 Developer Preview 1 last month with a system package and announced the Android 11 development schedule. Now, Google has announced Android 11 Developer Preview 2, developers can now test the second test version of the new Android iteration.

Android 11 Developer Preview 2 includes all functions of the first test version and will get new features as listed below. The Android 11 Developer Preview 2 for the models Google Pixel 2 (XL), Pixel 3 (XL), Pixel 3a (XL) and Pixel 4 (XL) is now available for download.

Beta version will be launched in May and the final version will be available in Q2 2020.

Android 11 Developer Preview 2 Changelog:

  • This release may have various stability, battery, or performance issues on supported devices.
  • For users with accessibility needs, this release may not be appropriate for daily use.
  • Some apps may not function as expected when running on this release. This includes Google’s apps as well as other apps.
  • The keyboard now appears after tapping Reply on a message in the notification shade ( Issue 150028675 ).
  • After finishing a call, the phone no longer crashes and restarts ( Issue 150117193 ).
  • When adjusting battery optimization settings, all apps are now listed ( Issue 150185518 ).
  • getCurrentLocation() now returns correct location details on Pixel 4 XL devices ( Issue 150151278 ).
  • The status bar and quick settings tile now correctly indicate when a Bluetooth audio device is connected ( Issue  149871906 ).
  • LocationManager.requestLocationUpdates() now reports the location correctly from the network provider ( Issue 149890393 ).
  • Downloads no longer hang when a user tries to download Pixel Sounds from Settings> Sounds> Ringtone – Notification – Alarm sounds ( Issue 149874827 ).

Android 11 Developer Preview 2 (DP2) New Features:

  • Hide ‘silent’ notifications in the status bar.
  • Notification history is now available with a quick shortcut.
  • Confirm eSIM deletion option.
  • Shortcut to start an accessibility feature from the lock screen.
  • ‘Quick Controls’ will put your smart home shortcuts into the power menu.
  • Simulate punch-hole, waterfall displays with new developer options.
  • Conversation notifications can be marked as ‘important’ with revamped UI.
  • Under the “Default home app” menu, there’s a curious “Shell” option that when selected opens the “Pixel is starting” animation you encounter after installing an OTA.
  • ‘Wireless debugging’ for hassle-free ADB connection.
  • Pixel 4: ‘Require eyes to be open’ for face unlock live.
  • Pixel Theming readies lock screen clock customization.
  • Pixel Wallpaper picker redesigned with grid layout.
  • The built-in screen recorder gets accompanying UI.
  • Notification shade: Large gaps separating Conversations, Alerting, and Silent.

The Android 11 Developer Preview program runs from February 2020 until the final public release to AOSP and OEMs, planned for Q3 2020. At key development milestones, we’ll deliver updates for your development and testing environments. Each includes SDK tools, system images, emulators, API reference, and API diffs – Google.
