Huawei surpassed Samsung in the number of patent applications
According to the latest information from the 2021 Patent Index report released by the European Patent Office (EPO) on the 5th local time, Huawei applied for 3,544 patents in Europe last year, surpassing South Korea’s Samsung for the first place.
The report shows that Samsung (3,439 items) and LG (2,422 items) are next. In 2020, Samsung Electronics applied for 3,276 patents to the EPO, ranking first, and was overtaken by Huawei in less than a year. LG maintained its 2020 ranking.
Patent applications received by the EPO last year totaled 188,600, a year-on-year increase of 4.5%. Among them, the field of digital communication has the fastest growth, with a year-on-year increase of 8.2%, followed by medical technology (8.1%), computer technology (7.8%), and electronic machinery (6.4%).
