Qualcomm will continue supply to Huawei

On February 03, 2023, Qualcomm officially announced its financial report for 2022. On the earnings call, Qualcomm Technology Licensing and Global Affairs President Alex Rogers said he did not expect its current licenses to export 4G, Wi-Fi and other chips to Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei Co. Impacted by reports that the U.S. Department of Commerce has stopped issuing export licenses to Huawei.

Alex Rogers said: “These licenses were issued because the US Congress believed they would not affect national security issues. These (licenses) will last for several years.”

Recently, Bloomberg reported that the United States is planning to cut off Huawei’s cooperation with all American suppliers.

As we know that, the US included the Chinese tech giant Huawei in the “Entity List” in 2019. Since then, the United States has repeatedly upgraded its sanctions against Huawei, restricting Huawei’s self-developed chip manufacturing and procurement of third-party chips containing American technology.

Of course, the U.S. Department of Commerce has also opened licenses to some suppliers, allowing them to supply some low-end chips to Huawei. For example, Intel and AMD provide Huawei with the processors they use in the Mate series of laptops, while Qualcomm can sell some 4G, Wi-Fi and other chips to Huawei.
