Summary of Huawei May 15 event: Born to draw App, MatePad 11.5 S, Children’s Watch 5 Pro and more
On May 15, 2024, Huawei held a summer full-scenario new product launch conference. The Chinese tech giant introduced Pura 70 Series, Born To Draw App, MatePad Pro 13.2, MatePad 11.5″S and more.
1.Pura 70 Series
Yu Chengdong came on stage to introduce the Pura 70 series , mainly focusing on Pura 70 Ultra. He said that Pura 70 Ultra adopts a weather vane design, not only has a unique XMAGE image logo, but also has a red circle lens design.
The Pura 70 Ultra is equipped with the first super-concentrated retractable camera, with a 1-inch ultra-large bottom sensor and F1.6 ultra-large aperture.
Thanks to this, the machine has the largest amount of light in the industry, 198% higher than the iPhone 15 Pro Max ; with the first XD Motion motion engine, real-time double exposure motion blur restoration can achieve ultra-high-speed flash shooting; it is also equipped with industry-leading Super focusing macro telephoto camera , supports 35x super macro, and the minimum focusing distance reaches 5cm.
In addition, Yu Chengdong also introduced that the Pura 70 series is the first mass smartphone Beidou satellite image news . The screen uses basalt tempered Kunlun glass and supports 100W wired super fast charging and 80W wireless super fast charging.
2. Born to Draw App
After briefly introducing the Pura 70 series, Yu Chengdong exited and He Gang appeared, bringing the Born to Draw App. It is reported that this App took 3 years to build , was jointly developed with eight major technical fields, was jointly created by the China Academy of Art team, and was further polished by thousands of creators.
3. MatePad Pro 13.2
Along with the debut of the Born to Draw App, Huawei also brought a new color version of MatePad Pro 13.2-inch. The new color is Roland Purple , and the core configuration has not changed. The main highlights are: the industry’s first flexible OLED tablet, 94% ultra-high screen-to-body ratio, Star Flash stylus, Hongmeng Productivity, AI air control.

4. MatePad 11.5″S
In terms of specifications, a new Huawei MatePad 11.5-inch S tablet adopts a metal body, is 6.2mm thick, weighs 510g, and is available in three colors: space gray, frost silver and violet.
In terms of specific parameters, the screen specifications are 11.5-inch 3:2 ratio 2.8K 144Hz. In addition, it has nano-etching technology, which is claimed to bring a “return to paper-like writing” experience.
Huawei Launches MatePad 11.5-Inch S
Some configurations of the tablet have been exposed before. It is equipped with an 8800mAh battery , a 13-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front camera, four speakers, a USB 3.0 Type-C interface, and supports 22.5W fast charging.
Huawei MatePad 11.5-inch S tablet is equipped with HarmonyOS 4.2 operating system. 5.MateBook X Pro
Huawei released the 2024 MateBook X Pro, which was available in three colors: inkstone black, white, and clear blue. In today’s press conference, Huawei updated the color scheme and added Dawn Pink. This color scheme is only available in Ultra 9+32GB+2TB version, priced at 15,699 yuan.

7. WATCH FIT 3
After being released overseas some time ago, WATCH FIT 3 officially debuted in China today. Compared with the first two generations, the design of the third generation WATCH FIT has undergone significant changes, evolving from a band to a watch . The watch body is made of 9.9mm thick aluminum alloy and is equipped with a metal rotating crown on the side.

8. Children’s Watch 5 Pro
Huawei also introduced the new Children’s Watch 5 Pro, priced at 1,198 yuan.
This watch is available in two colors: Ice Crystal Pink/Ice Crystal Blue, and has a built-in 800mAh battery.
According to reports, the watch is equipped with the offline positioning 2.0 function for the first time , which can locate the watch even if there is no network and the phone is shut down for 5 days.
It also supports anti-addiction protection and is equipped with high-definition dual cameras. It is the first children’s watch in the industry to obtain the “Children’s Safety Protection Certification” from the China Quality Certification Center.
9. Huawei Smart Glasses 2
In September last year, Huawei released Smart Glasses 2, which are available in five styles: frameless, pilot, square and half-frame, titanium hollow, and gold wire.
Huawei has brought a square-frame sunglasses version of the glasses, priced at 2,299 yuan. This pair of glasses is a full-frame design with 11 layers of lens coating , which is anti-reflective, more wear-resistant, and easy to clean.
10. FreeClip Ear Clip Headphones
In this press conference, FreeClip ear clip headphones also like to introduce a new color, which is the same “Warm Nebula” as the overseas version.

11. Huawei Home Storage
At the press conference, Huawei announced that its home storage has officially upgraded the “application data backup” function , an exclusive first in the industry.
According to the introduction, the “Application Data Backup” function can support full backup of WeChat chat records including text, photos, videos, and documents, and can restore specified backup records with one click.
Huawei is getting ready to release a new super-thin phone called the Mate 70 Air. Some details about this phone have already been leaked online, and now a new picture has appeared showing what it looks like.
What the phone looks like
A promotional poster for the Huawei Mate 70 Air was leaked today. The phone looks similar to other phones in Huawei’s Mate 70 family, but it’s much thinner.
The back of the phone has a round camera area with Huawei’s XMAGE camera logo on it. The edges of the phone appear to be shiny and polished. The back cover has a textured surface, similar to another Huawei model called the Mate 70 Pro+.
What’s inside the phone
There isn’t much information available yet, but the Mate 70 Air might be a mid-priced phone. Early reports said it would have 12GB of memory and either 256GB or 512GB of storage space. However, newer information suggests it will actually have 16GB of memory.
The phone is expected to have a large 6.9-inch screen. It will also have a high-quality main camera.
Other features
Unlike Apple’s iPhone Air, the Huawei Mate 70 Air will have a slot for a physical SIM card. The phone will run on Huawei’s HarmonyOS 5.1 software. It will come in three colors: black, white, and gold.
Huawei is expected to launch this phone in November, around the same time as its Mate 80 series.

A Chinese company called HiSilicon Semiconductor just changed who’s in charge. The old boss, Xu Zhijun, stepped down from his job as the legal representative and chairman. Now the company’s CEO, Gao Ji, is taking over these roles.
Xu has been working at Huawei since 1993 and still has other important jobs there – he’s a vice chairman and sometimes serves as the rotating chairman. Him leaving this position is probably just Huawei moving people around to different jobs within the company.
HiSilicon is completely owned by Huawei and makes computer chips. This change in leadership might mean Huawei is trying to make things work better.
HiSilicon started in October 2004 when Huawei took its computer chip design team and turned it into its own company. The main office is in Shenzhen, but they also have offices in Beijing, Shanghai, and other cities in China.
