Huawei Hu Houkun: 5G development speed is far beyond expectations

Huawei’s rotating chairman, Hu Houkun (Born in 1968, Mr. Hu holds a bachelor’s degree from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Mr. Hu joined Huawei in 1990 and has served as President of the Marketing & Sales Dept in China, President of the Latin America Region, President of the Global Sales Dept, Chief Sales & Service Officer, Chief Strategy & Marketing Officer, Chairman of the Global Cyber Security and User Privacy Protection Committee (GSPC), Chairman of the BOD of Huawei USA, Deputy Chairman of the Board, Rotating CEO, and Chairman of the HRC.), attended the 2021 Global Mobile Broadband Forum, during the occasion, he delivered a keynote speech entitled “Based on the Present, Shaping the Future”.

Hu Houkun pointed out: “In the five years since 5G pre-commercialization, it has brought about an improvement in consumer experience and a breakthrough in industry enablement. It has made progress beyond expectations in terms of user scale, network coverage, and terminal development.” In order to promote the new development of 5G Hu Houkun believes that the industry should actively prepare for the XR business, 5GtoB market, and green and low-carbon development.

176 5G commercial networks have been deployed worldwide, with more than 500 million users; the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology stated that my country has opened and built more than one million 5G base stations, and the number of 5G terminal connections has exceeded 400 million.

Hu Houkun believes that the development speed of 5G far exceeds expectations. 5G has achieved a 10-fold increase in speed in the consumer sector and has brought new applications such as VR and 360-degree live video broadcasting. In the corporate market, more than 10,000 5GtoB projects have been carried out globally.
