Huawei’s in-depth interpretation in largest energy storage project in Saudi Arabia
In October 2021, the Global Digital Energy Summit was held in Dubai. During the conference, Huawei Digital Energy Technology Co., Ltd. and Shandong Electric Power Construction Third Engineering Co., Ltd. successfully signed a contract for the Red Sea New City energy storage project in Saudi Arabia.
According to the information, the brand new project is the world’s largest optical storage off-grid energy storage project, and its energy storage system can reach 1,300MWh.
The owner of the project is Red Sea Development Company, the developer is ACWA Power, a Saudi Arabian company engaged in clean energy power generation, seawater desalination and supply, and the general contractor is Shandong Electric Power Construction Third Engineering Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Power Construction.
In this project, Huawei mainly provides an overall solution for optical storage, which includes a 1300MWh energy storage system, PCS, communication system, and management system. At the same time, Huawei also participates in solution design, power grid simulation and related design consulting services.
Huawei claims that the world’s largest optical storage off-grid energy storage project is particularly economical, and the overall system life cycle cost per kilowatt-hour will be less than 10 cents, which is quite large compared to the traditional power generation methods used in Saudi Arabia. Advantage .
As for why Huawei was able to win the bid this time, Huawei stated that its company has two advanced technologies: one is to solve the problem of how to operate a large-scale optical storage independent network safely and stably; the other is to solve the problem of power supply costs. Moreover, Huawei’s overall delivery time is short, and it can also provide customers with certain reference value in the later operation and maintenance management. According to the agreement, Huawei’s smart optical storage solution will be delivered in June 2022 and is scheduled to be completed in March 2023.
