Huawei Ding Yun: China’s 5G will grow fast

On October 14, at the ICT Leaders Forum, Ding Yun, President and Managing Director of Huawei Carrier BG, delivered a keynote speech entitled “Together to Build the Most Successful 5G”.

He stated that China has built the world’s largest 5G network. Up to now, 600,000 5G base stations have been built nationwide, and 5G users have exceeded 150 million. However, compared with countries with earlier 5G deployments such as South Korea and Switzerland, there is still a lot of work to be done if China’s 5G business is to achieve greater success. The core goal of the next stage of China’s 5G is to build the most successful 5G from the perspective of user experience and commercial closed-loop.

He believes that for operators, to build the most successful 5G, the goal in the personal business area is to achieve a closed-loop business; in the industry, it is to face the new blue ocean, incubate new capabilities, and create a new growth engine.

There are currently over 100 million 5G users in China. However, many users have bought 5G packages, but they are not using 5G mobile phones; on the other hand, users with 5G mobile phones may not have 5G coverage in the area where they are located. Applications that can bring users a differentiated ultimate experience include video, high-definition and interactive, 4K, 8K, VR, AR, XR, free perspective, cloud gaming, etc.

Finally, maximize the value of 5G networks through network efficiency improvements and operational upgrades. Compared with 4G and 5G, the system capacity has increased dozens of times, and the accompanying increase in power consumption poses new challenges to the power supply system of some sites.
