Huawei’s high-precision map plans to be commercially available within this year

According to the information, Huawei obtained Class A surveying and mapping qualification for navigation electronic map production in July 2019. Two years later, Huawei’s high-precision map was launched for commercial use.

During the Shanghai Auto Show on April 18, Liao Zhenqin, general manager of Huawei’s Smart Car Cloud Service Product Department, said that the high-precision maps of the national high-speed roads including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen will be commercially available within 2021. In the same year, Tianjin and Tianjin will be added to high-precision maps. Data for Chongqing, Chengdu, and Hangzhou will be expanded to more than 20 cities in 2022.

High-precision maps are a prerequisite for autonomous driving solutions. Companies that provide autonomous driving solutions all need high-precision map support, based on which vehicles locate information and obtain surrounding information. Some companies use the products of graphic vendors, and some choose to draw independently.

Huawei’s high-precision map system is called Roadcode. Roadcode is divided into two parts: Roadcode HD + Roadcode RT. Roadcode HD is equivalent to a high-precision map drawn by a professional surveying and mapping team, which is offline. Roadcode RT is equivalent to a self-learning map.
