Counterpoint: HiSilicon ranked 6th in the 2021 Q4 smartphone SoC market

According to Counterpoint’s latest research report of the global smartphone, AP/SoC chipset shipments in the fourth quarter of 2021. As per the data, it increased by 5% year-on-year, of which 5G smartphone SoC shipments accounted for almost half of total SoC shipments.

On top of the list, MediaTek, which led the smartphone SoC market with a 33% share in the fourth quarter of 2021, saw its smartphone SoC sales decline in the quarter due to high shipments in the first half and inventory adjustments by Chinese smartphone makers, the study showed.

Qualcomm ranked second with a market share of 30%, an increase of 18% month-on-month, and the high-end market and dual procurement from foundries boosted Qualcomm’s share growth. Meanwhile, Qualcomm dominates the 5G modem market with a 76% share , driven by baseband demand from Apple and high-end Android phones .

Apple ranked third with a 21% share.

UNISOC ranked fourth, with a share of 11% in the fourth quarter of 2021. Compared with 2020, its SoC shipments will more than double in 2021. Samsung Exynos slipped to fifth place with a 4% share.

Due to the US trade ban on Huawei, HiSilicon is unable to produce Kirin chipsets so it ranked in the 6th position, and the accumulated inventory of Kirin SoCs is on the verge of exhaustion. Therefore, Huawei’s latest mobile phone can only use Qualcomm 4G SoC.
