Huawei releases 2022 Annual Report
Huawei released its 2022 Annual Report on March 31, 2023, revealing that the company had maintained solid operations throughout the past year. As per the report, Huawei achieved CNY642.3 billion in revenue in 2022 and CNY35.6 billion in net profits.
The company’s R&D expenditure reached CNY161.5 billion in 2022, representing 25.1% of its total revenue, and bringing its total R&D expenditure over the past 10 years to over CNY977.3 billion.
“In 2022, a challenging external environment and non-market factors continued to take a toll on Huawei’s operations”, said Eric Xu, Huawei’s Rotating Chairman, at the company’s annual report press conference. “In the midst of this storm, we kept racing ahead, doing everything in our power to maintain business continuity and serve our customers. We also went to great lengths to grow the harvest – generating a steady stream of revenue to sustain our survival and lay the groundwork for future development.”
Also present at the event was Sabrina Meng, Huawei’s CFO. She noted, “Despite substantial pressure in 2022, our overall business results were in line with forecast. At the end of 2022, our liability ratio was 58.9% and our net cash balance was CNY176.3 billion. In addition, our balance of total assets reached one trillion yuan, largely composed of current assets such as cash, short-term investments, and operating assets. Our financial position remains solid, with strong resilience and flexibility. In 2022, our total R&D spend was CNY161.5 billion, representing 25.1% of our total revenue – among the highest in Huawei’s history. In times of pressure, we press on – with confidence.”
In 2022, revenue from Huawei’s carrier, enterprise, and consumer businesses was CNY284 billion, CNY133.2 billion, and CNY214.5 billion, respectively.

Huawei has recently introduced its first tri-fold mobile phone, Mate XT Ultimate Design. The phone is available in two colors: Ruihong and Xuanhei, and is pre-installed with HarmonyOS 4.2 system. Huawei’s Mate XT 3-foldable phone does not support the multi-device task flow function of the HarmonyOS system, and cannot drag applications to “transfer” to other devices for use.
Huawei’s official website shows that some foldable screen phones do not support multi-device task flow in HarmonyOS 3.0 and later versions. The models are as follows:

Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design tri-fold phone is available in two colors: Ruihong and Xuanhei, and three storage versions: 16GB+256GB, 16GB+512GB, and 16GB+1TB.
The new phone is only 3.6 mm thick and is equipped with a 10.2-inch “world’s largest” mobile phone folding screen . The rear lens adopts Huawei’s classic star diamond design, and the lens frame adopts a “unique” rock vein texture.
Huawei Mate XT is the first smartphone to achieve inward and outward bending of the hinge , and is equipped with the “Huawei Tiangong Hinge System”.
The screen of Huawei Mate XT is made of non-Newtonian fluid material; it is equipped with a 5600mAh “world’s thinnest silicon negative pole large-capacity battery” with a battery thickness of only 1.9mm.
Huawei Mate XT supports 66W wired fast charging, 50W wireless fast charging, as well as Lingxi communication and Tiantong satellite call functions.

Huawei also launched a foldable touch keyboard that can be paired with the Mate XT to provide a desktop PC-like experience.
Huawei is all set for a major product launch event on September 19th in Barcelona. The lineup is expected to include new additions to the Huawei Watch GT series, potentially the Watch GT 5 and Watch GT 5 Pro. Huawei recently teased these products on social media, offering a glimpse of their design.
Ahead of the official unveiling, images of the Huawei Watch GT 5 46mm (VLI-B19) and GT 5 Pro 46mm (VLI-B29) have surfaced through NCC certification documents. These images reveal several key features:
- Circular dial with a functional crown and an additional button, likely for exercise controls
- Metallic body surrounding the display
- Health sensors on the rear
- Interchangeable straps: silicone options in blue and black for both models, with an exclusive metal strap for the GT 5 Pro
- Dual-tone dial design on the blue GT 5 model
- Magnetic clasp on the GT 5 Pro’s metal strap
- 5ATM water and dust resistance rating
The certification also shows a magnetic wireless charger (model CCAK23LP1350T2) compatible with both new models and the previous GT 4. This charger supports 5V-9V at 2A input, suggesting 18W fast charging capability.
These leaked details offer a comprehensive preview of Huawei’s upcoming smartwatch offerings, showcasing both aesthetic and functional improvements over previous models.
