π Lab: Huawei and the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Mathematics established new lab

According to the official website of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Academy of Mathematics and System Sciences, on December 15th, the π laboratory unveiling ceremony and experiment jointly organized by Huawei and the Chinese Academy of Sciences Academy of Mathematics and System Sciences (School of Mathematics).

Academician Ma Zhiming of the School of Mathematics, the co-director of the laboratory, introduced the basic situation of the laboratory, including the organizational structure, previous history, current direction, and future work layout.

He pointed out that naming the π laboratory instead of a traditional joint laboratory means that it hopes to dilute the color of the unit, break the boundaries of the organization, and let the laboratory go global.

He also emphasized that the π laboratory will continue to innovate research and activity models, open to the world, attract scientific researchers from all over the world to participate in related topics and scientific research projects, and strive to lead the research on the mathematical theory of communication technology.

Huawei’s director Xu Wenwei pointed out that mathematics is the foundation of the information industry. Huawei’s development has benefited from mathematics. Important 5G technologies such as Polar codes and Massive MIMO have fully applied mathematical theories and tools.
