Huawei releases openEuler operating system

Huawei at Connect 2021 online event released a new operating system “openEuler Euler”. openEuler is an open source and free Linux distribution platform that will build a software ecosystem with developers around the world through an open community. At the same time, openEuler is also an innovative platform, encouraging anyone to put forward new ideas, develop new ideas, and practice new solutions on this platform.

openEuler Timeline:

  • To recall, back in September 2019, Huawei declared that openEuler was open source, and the openEuler open source community was officially launched. openEuler hopes to build an innovative platform through community cooperation, build a multi-processor architecture, a unified and open operating system, and promote the prosperity and development of the software and hardware application ecosystem.
  • Back in December 2019, the openEuler open-source code went online.
  • On March 27, 2020, the openEuler open source community officially released the openEuler LTS 20.03 (Long Term Support) version.

Yesterday, Huawei’s rotating chairman Xu Zhijun said in an interview that Euler had recently repositioned itself. It originally served Kunpeng and is now positioned as the future digital infrastructure operating system. “Huawei will focus on building two operating systems HarmonyOS and Euler in the future and at the same time open source. Hongmeng (HarmonyOS) is used in smart terminals, IoT terminals, and industrial terminals; Euler is used in servers, edge computing, and cloud infrastructure.”
